Favorite Suppliers of Seeds and Supplies

Find links to SVF suppliers of seeds and other growing supplies and a few comments. Warnings included for seed sources where some are treated with systematic chemicals (which are verboten at the SVF).

In a microfarm, disease can spread super fast, and so we plant hybrid, disease resistant varieties only of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, and zucchini, and where available, hybrid for squashes.

Supplies

  • Grow Organic (Peaceful Valley). They have fertilizers, including fertigation fertilizers, and other soil amendments that are hard to impossible to find elsewhere.
  • Greenhouse Megastore. If your greenhouse needs it, they sell it, best prices on 1020 trays and inserts and seedling growing pots.
  • Dripdepot. Very comprehensive assortment of drip irrigation supplies.
  • Temu. If you dont need it right away, prices direct from China for tomato clips, trowels, etc. cannot be beat.
  • Vevor. Good prices on certain landscaping supplies.
  • AgNutrien. Great price and source for soil amendments in decent size quantities (if they have it). But they do run out of some during planting season.

Seeds

  • Baker Creek Rare seeds great source of novel varieties including European (east and west), Asian, and some African plants. Most seeds having high germination rates, useful user reviews, good pricing and free (and fast) shipping; however, does not list germination times and time to harvest. Also, not a great source for hybrid seeds. Occasionally, a favorite seed disappears; however, I have had decent germination even in year 3, of their seeds.
  • Kitazawa Seeds Great source of Asian seeds, particularly hybrid seeds (I will not grow non-hybrid tomatoes). High germination rates; however, specific disease resistances are generally not described. Even some nice recipes. Treated seeds noted.
  • Territorial seeds. My source for hybrid tomatoes, peas and beans (in larger quantities than small seed packets) and other seeds, with excellent information on germination and harvesting times and specific disease resistances, and nice images to help choose.
  • Johnny’s Seeds. Very good selection, particularly for hybrids and weather tolerant lettuces. Also good prices on bulk seeds, such as coriander for broadcast planting (or sprouting).
